The Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES) has officially pledged its support for the Technician Commitment, reinforcing its commitment to recognising and supporting technical staff within the field. By becoming a supporter, CASES affirms its dedication to enhancing the recognition, visibility, career development, and sustainability of technical skills in sport, health, and exercise sciences.
The Technician Commitment is a sector-wide initiative that aims to ensure technical staff receive the recognition and career development opportunities they deserve. As a supporter, CASES will work alongside institutions, the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy, and the Science Council to advocate for the essential role technicians play in teaching, research, innovation, and in the applied field.
Recognising the importance of technicians, CASES acknowledges that technical roles represent a valid and valuable career path. The organisation is committed to raising the profile of technicians to ensure they receive the visibility and recognition their work deserves.
This commitment aligns with CASES’ ongoing efforts to ensure that technical professionals are equipped with the support, recognition, and career progression they need to thrive. By integrating the principles of the Technician Commitment into its strategic framework, CASES is taking an important step toward fostering an inclusive and progressive environment for technical staff across the sector.
Chair of CASES, Prof Zoe Knowles, FCASES said:
“As Chair I was thoroughly inspired by the session I attended at the 2024 Conference session through which the foundations of this group were proposed. There is much to look forward to from the group plans, they are bold and ambitious and a warm welcome awaits for new members who join the Association from a Technical background.
“I would ask members reading this to pass on the information to Technical staff in their HEI’s and organisations and encourage them to join the CASES family and get involved!”
Amelia Dingley MCASES, Technical Manager (Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences) and Co-chair of the CASES Technical Special Interest Group, expressed her enthusiasm for this milestone:
"It is fantastic to see CASES become a supporter of the Technician Commitment. This demonstrates a clear recognition of the invaluable contributions that technical staff make within sport, health, and exercise sciences. Our Technical Special Interest Group within CASES, which was approved in November 2024, is already making great strides in raising the profile of technicians, and this pledge further strengthens our mission to enhance visibility and opportunities for technical professionals. We want to ensure that technicians are not only seen but also valued as integral members of the sector, with a clear career trajectory and professional recognition.
“I am thrilled to be representing CASES at the UK ITSS signatory event in Belfast this May. I also look forward to being part of the panel talk on sharing best practice, this presents a fantastic opportunity to highlight the progress we are making within CASES and to champion the role of technicians. I look forward to sharing our journey and collaborating with other sector leaders to drive meaningful change."
