With an impressive 27 years of service at Aston University, Jiteen has become a driving force in shaping the technical community.
His leadership style has been described as “transformational”, combining practical skill with a clear vision for how technical services can empower teaching, research and innovation.
Jiteen’s achievements include:
- Leading the redevelopment of the Pharmacy Laboratory: From the initial funding bid through to delivery, Jiteen ensured the facility was inclusive, sustainable and technically outstanding. The laboratory has since been shortlisted for two Constructing Excellence Awards and has attracted visits from peers across the sector, who are now taking Aston’s model forward in their own institutions.
- Championing people: Jiteen has restructured Aston’s technical workforce, embedding clear career pathways and opening new opportunities for staff development. Colleagues who had not had training opportunities for years are now thriving, gaining recognition and promotions.
- Becoming a national advocate for the profession, contributing to the Midlands Innovation TALENT Commission and serving as Chair of the Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium.
- Amplifying technician voices at Aston: At Aston, Jiteen has taken technician visibility to the highest levels of decision-making, being elected to Senate to represent professional services. For him, amplifying technician voices is not just a responsibility but a personal mission.
- Multiple honours recognising his dedication, including the Chancellor’s Medal (2020) and the One Aston Award (2024).
When asked what motivates him most, Jiteen highlights his passion for supporting and developing others, training up the next generation of technicians and sharing knowledge across the community.
Despite his many achievements, Jiteen remains characteristically humble. He admits that being shortlisted nationally feels surreal:
“I struggle with imposter syndrome and still can’t believe that’s my name on the list!”
This honesty reflects the warmth and authenticity admired by colleagues across Aston and beyond.
Jiteen’s story is one of quiet determination, generosity, and a steadfast belief in the power of technical services to transform universities.
