Outstanding Technician of the Year 2025 shortlist announced
Eight technical professionals from UK universities and research institutions have been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Award Outstanding Technician of the Year Award 2025.
This category recognises individuals whose exceptional practical skills, commitment and vision have enabled the highest quality teaching, research or knowledge transfer.
The shortlisted technical professionals are

- Alex Laude, Newcastle University
- Helena Brown, University of Leeds
- Joe Rees-Jones, University of York
- John Nicolson, University of Cambridge
- Kate Robinson, Harper Adams University
- Linda Lightley, Northumbria University
- Phil Chaplain, Robert Gordon University
The annual Times Higher Education (THE) Awards celebrate excellence across UK higher education.
The Outstanding Technician of the Year Award is sponsored by the Technician Commitment and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Thursday 13 November 2025.
This is the seventh year Technician Commitment has sponsored this award.
