The Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare joins supporter community

The Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare is recognised as a supporter of simulation technicians by the Technician Commitment.

The Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) is a not-for-profit membership Association comprising of 900+ members drawn from healthcare, education and patient safety backgrounds including researchers, learning technologists, workforce development or education managers, administrators, and healthcare staff and students.

Kevin Stirling ASPiH Director says: "ASPiH has supported the professional development of simulation technicians over many years through our conference activity and wider collaborations. Almost 10 years ago, ASPiH collaborated with Laerdal Medical to develop the Simulation Technician Educational Programme (STEP) which supported simulation technicians to gain registration with the Science Council. Over the last three years, ASPiH worked in partnership with NHS England and Scotia UK PLC (smots™) to support simulation technicians to attend our annual conference. This new collaboration with the Technician Commitment will see ASPiH formally recognised as a supporter of simulation technicians. ASPiH is excited to be recognised as a supporter of simulation technicians, and we are keen to engage with simulation technicians to inform our future work activity.

At the upcoming ASPiH Conference in Bournemouth, members of the ASPiH Executive Committee will co-host a workshop with ITSS to develop a shared action plan — informed directly by simulation technicians within the ASPiH community.  This joint strategy, together with the extensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) resources available through Technician Commitment and the UK Institute for Technical Skills & Strategy (UK ITSS), will enable ASPiH to strengthen and sustain the professional development of simulation technicians across the UK and Ireland.

Mary Holding, Simulation Technician and ASPiH Executive Committee Member added: “As a Simulation Technician and a representative on the ASPiH executive committee board, ASPiH signing up to support the Technician Commitment shows continuing efforts to further recognise and show how valuable the Simulation Technician community is. This support agreement reflects ASPiH’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the professional development and recognition of Simulation Technicians within the UK and Ireland.  It is, and always will be, vital to have voices from the Simulation Technician Community heard. On behalf of the ASPiH executive committee, we are very excited to work alongside the UK ITSS and the Simulation community to ensure those who contribute to the delivery of quality assured simulation-based activities are heard and receive the respect, support, and recognition they deserve.”

Mel Leitch, Technician Commitment Associate Lead said: "We warmly welcome The Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) as a new supporter within the Technician Commitment community.

"As a non-for-profit organisation representing technical professionals in healthcare education and patient safety backgrounds, the work of these technicians are critical within teaching, research and ultimately, patient care.

"ASPiH already supports technicians with financial support, conferences, professional registration and training courses. I’m confident that ASPiH’s members will benefit from increased visibility, recognition, career development opportunities and longer-term sustainability from being part of the Technician Commitment community."

The Technician Commitment is a growing global community of more than 140 signatory and supporter organisations championing technical professionals and their contributions to higher education and research. The initiative is hosted by the UK Institute of Technical Skills & Strategy.
